Tree Planting at the Sussex County Civil Defense Center

Thursday, April 13, 2017

Three Sussex County Community College (SCCC) environmental science lab classes recently participated in a tree planting event at the Sussex County Civil Defense Center across from the Sussex County Library. The students planted 300 trees and shrubs along a tributary to the Paulins Kill. The trees will help to shade the water body, helping to cool the water temperature. The Civil Defense Center was acquired by the community college a number of years ago so this was a tremendous opportunity for SCCC students to plant trees on a property that the college owns. Environmental science students look forward to continuing to conduct tree and shrub maintenance at the site to ensure that the trees successfully grow along the floodplain.
