McKeown Hosts Rain Garden Maintenance Day

Wednesday, June 07, 2017

Students at McKeown Elementary School in Hampton Township participated in a rain garden maintenance day with the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group. The students assisted the WRWMG with weeding and mulching the garden and laying down river stone. The day’s work helped to make sure that the garden continues to function properly and looks visually appealing.

Rain gardens are a form of stormwater management. During rain storms, the garden collects water from the rooftop, allowing the water to seep into the ground instead of being transported across the blacktop and directly into the neighboring Paulins Kill River.
