Kayaking to Remove Water Chestnut from Lake Wawayanda

Amanda Hayes, AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador for the Wallkill River Watershed, recently organized a water chestnut pull at Wawayanda State Park. Participants kayaked and canoed around Lake Wawayanda and removed invasive water chestnut plants by hand. Without volunteer assistance, water chestnut can take over lakes and ponds and outcompete native aquatic vegetation.
