SCMUA-WRWMG and Sussex County Division of Engineering Team Up in Franklin

Thursday, December 14, 2017

The SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group recently partnered with the Sussex County Division of Engineering to assist with the reforestation component of the Franklin viaduct bridge project. As part the new bridge installation, the Division of Engineering was required to plant trees and shrubs along the Wallkill River in the area next to the river that was disturbed during construction.

The SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group worked with the Sussex County Division of Engineering to help increase tree and shrub survivability by selecting species that will grow well in the moist soil that is found on the site and by protecting all of the planted materials with tree shelters in order to prevent deer and small rodents (voles) from killing the trees. This collaboration represents just one of the many ways that the SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group can assist the county with stewardship on publically-owned lands.
