High Point High School Students Plant Trees Along Papakating Creek

Thursday, April 04, 2019

A.P. environmental students from High Point High School recently worked alongside the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group to plant 400 trees and shrubs along the Papakating Creek in Wantage Township that were funded by The Nature Conservancy’s Roots for Rivers Program. The day built off of the success of previous tree planting work days led by two other groups of High Point students.

Planting trees along streams and rivers remains an important way to keep local waterways clean. Not only do the trees provide shade to cool the water temperature, but they also help to block different types of pollutants (pesticide, fertilizer, road salt, soil) from getting into the streams.
