Tuesday, April 30, 2019

350 Sussex County elementary school students from Sparta, Hardyston, Frankford, Andover, Hamburg, Franklin, Ogdensburg, and Newton recently participated in the 14th annual Earth Energy Day Celebration organized by the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority and the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group.

Students participated in a series of hands-on stations focused around the following themes: solid waste disposal, recycling, wildlife, and natural resource conservation. Some of the activities included learning about fish habitat with the Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs program, examining live aquatic insects with the AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador Program, and learning how plastic waste harms local rivers and streams using a puppet show. Additionally, a food drive was conducted for the SCARC food pantry, which collected food for Sussex County residents.
