Sparta Middle School Hosts Environmental Educational Event

7th graders from Sparta Middle School participated in a rotation of different environmentally-focused stations led by numerous conservation organizations. Guest presenters from the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, Sussex County Office of Mosquito Control, and Sparta Historical Society educated students about the following topics: agricultural best management practices, how to be a watershed steward, proper stormwater management, floodplain reforestation, macroinvertebrates as biological indicators of stream health, artifacts from the Wallkill River Basin, mosquito control, and soil health.
