Merriam Ave Elementary School Students Learn about Impervious Surfaces
Tuesday, November 12, 2019
Students from Merriam Avenue Elementary School in Newton, NJ worked with the SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group to participate in an impervious surfaces lab activity where students tested water infiltration rates on mulch, grass, and sidewalk surfaces. Through the activity, students learned the differences between pervious and impervious surfaces and the effect that polluted stormwater runoff has on local water quality. The activity is part of an after school stormwater educational program being funded by NJ Future.
