Tree Tube Recycling Gets Underway at the SCMUA

Thursday, November 14, 2019

The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group in partnership with The Nature Conservancy has begun to remove tree tubes off of the large trees that were planted along the Paulins Kill River beginning in 2012. When new trees are planted, each tree trunk is protected with a plastic tree tube to prevent male deer from rubbing their antlers against the trunk of the tree and killing it.

Working with the SCMUA Recycling Coordinator, the tree tubes are being collected and recycled. To date, 472 tree tubes have been removed off of mature trees and recycled.
