Hurricane Isaias Reminds Us of the Threats of Stormwater Runoff
Tuesday, August 04, 2020
Unmanaged stormwater sends pollutants into our rivers, streams, and lakes. When it rains, chemicals and other dangerous pollutants on our streets and parking lots get washed into storm drains which drain directly into our waterways. This runoff can put restrictions on recreation and contaminate drinking water. The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group is working with local schools, lake associations, and homeowners to install stormwater management projects that use nature to naturally collect and filter stormwater runoff during rainstorms. The McKeown School parking lot pictured above helps to prevent contaminated runoff from flowing into the nearby Paulins Kill River.
