Despite the Pandemic, Planting Continues at Woodbourne Park

Monday, November 02, 2020

Even though COVID-19 has prevented the usual fall volunteer events from taking place this year, the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group staff has been planting and protecting 250 trees along the West Branch of Papakating Creek in Wantage Township in order to complete the deliverables of their Roots for Rivers grant.  The Roots for Rivers program is funded by The Nature Conservancy and The Watershed Institute and provides funding for projects that plant trees on public properties near rivers and streams throughout New Jersey.  Establishing forested buffers near streams helps to stabilize the water temperature and block harmful pollutants like fertilizer, pesticide, and road salt from flowing into local streams during rainstorms.
