Sparta Rain Garden Planning Meeting Tonight at 6:00pm

Thursday, May 27, 2021

Attend the next meeting of the Sparta Township Environmental Commission tonight (Thursday, May 27th) to learn about impervious land coverage in Sparta and a rain garden to be built in town. This will be a virtual (Zoom) meeting starting at 6:00pm.

Dr. Christopher Obropta, a specialist from Rutgers University, will be discussing impervious land coverage and potential locations for a rain garden. Sparta was selected as a recipient of a rain garden to be built by Rutgers.

Rain gardens, which appear similar to traditional gardens, collect and filter rainwater runoff from streets, sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, rooftops, and more.

Dr. Obropta is the Director of the New Jersey Water Resources Research Institute, an Extension Specialist in Water Resources with Rutgers Cooperative Extension, and an Associate Professor with the Department of Environmental Sciences at Rutgers.

Regional AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador, Alorah Bliese, and our Environmental Commission are assisting with this project.
