Newton High School Rain Garden is Complete

Tuesday, July 06, 2021

After a week of moving sod and soil through the school’s hallway to create a rain garden in the landlocked courtyard, the Newton High School rain garden is now complete! Rainwater will flow via pipe from the school’s rooftop into the rain garden, helping to reduce polluted stormwater runoff from entering the storm drains and the local Paulins Kill River. The rain garden was planted with different flowering plants and shrubs, like purple coneflower, blue lobelia, bee balm, and blue flag iris, that will attract pollinators and beautify the area to create an outdoor classroom for students to enjoy.
