The new class of AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors recently participated in an outdoor training event with the SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group to learn how to properly conduct riparian reforestation plantings in their own watersheds. The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group has served as a host agency for the AmeriCorps program since 2000 and has consecutively hosted outdoor training events for the watershed ambassadors since 2014.

During this year’s event, the AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors learned about the types of tree and shrub species to plant in the floodplain, the importance of installing deer protection around materials planted, and how to increase volunteer engagement in their watersheds. Additionally, the AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassadors helped to plant and protect a total of 275 trees and shrubs on SCMUA property.
