Crandon Lakes Volunteers Plant Rain Gardens

Monday, October 07, 2024

15 Crandon Lakes residents came out on Saturday morning to plant perennials in the two new rain gardens. Species installed included black-eyed Susan, coneflower, soft rush, blue flag iris, and milkweed that will attract pollinators to the rain gardens during different times of the year. In addition to providing flowers for bees and butterflies, the rain gardens are also designed to manage stormwater runoff from the Crandon Lakes Country Club parking lot. On an annual basis, these 2 rain gardens can capture, treat, and infiltrate 111,791 gallons of stormwater runoff, helping to keep polluted runoff out of Crandon Lakes.
