Floating Treatment Wetlands Installed at Crandon Lakes

Tuesday, October 29, 2024

Residents from Crandon Lakes joined the SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group out at East Beach to install 2 floating treatment wetlands in Crandon Lakes. The buoyant islands are planted with native pollinator plants and can utilize the microorganisms naturally found in the lake to process pollutants in the lake water. The floating islands help break down phosphorus in the lake that causes harmful algal blooms to develop so installing floating treatment wetlands helps keep Crandon Lakes cleaner.
