WRWMG Partners with SCCC for Stormwater Best Management Practices on Campus

Monday, February 01, 2016

The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group (WRWMG) recently met with environmental science professors at Sussex County Community College to discuss possible stormwater best management practices that can be implemented by students to improve the water quality of the Paulins Kill. As part of their environmental science service learning requirement, students will identify potential project opportunities on their school’s campus and then work with the WRWMG to obtain the necessary approvals to officially begin construction. Some of the potential projects that can be spearheaded by students include on-campus rain gardens, lawn to forest reforestation programs, and fertilizer/pesticide reduction initiatives on the school’s lawns. All of these projects will ultimately reduce the amount of non-point source pollution that enters the Paulins Kill while also educating students about the importance of proper stormwater management.
