Tree Tube Recycling is Underway!

Thursday, July 10, 2025

The SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group and The Nature Conservancy have begun to remove tree tubes from their joint Paulins Kill River reforestation project. The tree tubes had to remain on the saplings for 5-7 years so that the trees could be large enough to survive damage by the deer and rodents (voles). Tree tube removal and recycling is an exciting stage in the reforestation process because it signifies that the trees have grown large enough to survive on their own. Tree tubes are removed, cleaned, and boxed up for shipment to TerraCycle, an international company that specializes in hard-to-recycle materials.
