Road Salt Training Hosted at Lake Mohawk Country Club

Tuesday, February 10, 2026

On Saturday, the SCMUA-WRWMG's Watershed Programs Manager organized and hosted a road salt training in partnership with the Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation. The event, which was held at the Lake Mohawk Country Club, welcomed 26 community members and students. Attendees learned about the unintended consequences of road salt application to stream health and had an opportunity to test the chloride levels in stream samples collected from different portions of the Wallkill River Watershed. Participants interested in helping collect stream samples and testing the water for road salt impacts were encouraged to sign up for NJ Salt Watch. Their community science assistance will add to the statewide datasets about the impact of chloride pollution to freshwater streams.
