Sparta Glen Brook Restoration Project Now Complete

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

The Fred S. Burroughs Chapter of Trout Unlimited is proud to announce the completion of its Sparta Glen Brook Restoration Project. The in-stream portion of the project was completed by Urbani Fisheries of Bozeman, MT on April 14 to connect the brook with the surrounding floodplains. Following the in-stream bed manipulation, the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group partnered with Trout Unlimited to assist with the tree planting portion of the project. The WRWMG’s Watershed Education and Outreach Specialist was on-site each weekend to organize and supervise eight volunteer planting events. Between April 8th and May 7th, (120) volunteers worked (592) hours to plant approximately (1900) native trees and shrubs. The WRWMG will conduct maintenance inspections over the next several years to ensure the survivability of the planted trees. Replanting will take place, as necessary, to guarantee that a shaded tree canopy becomes established along the Glen Brook over time.
