4 Floating Islands Deployed at Culver Brook Preserve Pond

Friday, July 24, 2026

Today, the SCMUA-WRWMG and the Greater Culver Lake Watershed Conservation Foundation deployed 4 floating treatment islands into the pond at the Culver Brook Preserve (former Culver Lake Golf Course) as part of ongoing restoration efforts spearheaded by the SCMUA-WRWMG. The islands are planted with native wetlands vegetation and are designed to remove pollutants from the pond water.  Because the property functioned as a golf course for decades prior to the golf course's closure in 2019, pollutant runoff has impaired the health of the pond, but microorganism pollutant processing and plant uptake by the wetlands vegetation planted in the floating islands will help to clean up the pollutant buildup in the water over time.
