NJ's Largest Rain Garden Coming to McKeown Elementary School

Thursday, July 28, 2016

The SCMUA-WRWMG has partnered with Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program to install stormwater management and green infrastructure projects on the campus of Marion E. McKeown Elementary School in Hampton Township. By capturing stormwater runoff from the rooftop and parking lots, rain garden installation will help decrease non-point source pollution runoff from entering the Paulins Kill while also recharging local groundwater. In the process of constructing the rain garden, McKeown Elementary students will take an active planting role and will develop a better understanding of stormwater best management practices to protect water quality. Involving McKeown students in the project will build upon earlier stormwater management field lessons that the WRWMG has had with the school.
