WRWMG Hosts Rain Garden Maintenance Day at Long Pond School

Thursday, May 23, 2019

The Wallkill River Watershed Management Group worked with students and teachers at Long Pond School in Andover to spruce up their rain garden that was installed by Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program in 2011.

Students helped to weed the rain garden. They also learned about non-point source pollutants and did a “Stormwater Walk” around the campus to identify hard, impervious surfaces, like rooftops and parking lots, that can contribute polluted stormwater runoff to local rivers and streams during storm events. The WRWMG looks forward to again partnering with Long Pond School to continue teaching students about the importance of proper stormwater management and green infrastructure installation.
