Merriam Avenue Earth Keepers Participate in Educational Field Day at Memory Park
Thursday, June 09, 2016
3rd and 4th grade students at Merriam Avenue Elementary School recently participated in a restoration work day at Memory Park in Newton. Throughout the course of the day, the students worked with the WRWMG and TNC to plant sycamore and silky dogwood bare roots along the headwaters of the Paulins Kill. The students also had an opportunity to learn about non-point source pollution and the importance of macroinvertebrates for stream health by looking at live samples collected from the Paulins Kill at Lafayette Park. The students were fascinated to examine the macroinvertebrates up close and especially loved seeing the large crayfish and cranefly larvae moving in their buckets!
